How These Cases Work
Counterfeit apps and cloned sites built to capture your credentials.
The theft happens at the moment of setup, often long before anything moves.
01
The App Works Exactly as Expected
A counterfeit wallet is a functioning copy of a real one. It installs from a plausible listing or a sponsored search result, it opens, it displays balances, it lets you send and receive. Everything behaves normally, which is why the problem is rarely noticed early.
The withdrawal often comes weeks later, sometimes months — a delay that is deliberate, since it separates the theft from the install and makes the cause harder to identify.

What an Investigation Involves
Actionreclaims Investigations
The first task is establishing when the compromise happened, which is usually earlier than people assume. That means identifying the application or site involved, when credentials were exposed, and what access it granted.
From there we trace what left the wallet: the outbound transactions, the addresses that received them, and where funds moved afterwards — through exchanges, swaps, or bridges. Where funds reach a platform that holds records, that is the point at which a formal request becomes possible.
- Inside a Phishing Investigation
Our Process
Four stages, in the order we work them.
Compromise Analysis
Establishing which app or site was involved and when access was taken.
Outbound Transfer Tracing
Following every transaction that left after the compromise.
Destination Identification
Tracking funds to exchanges or services that hold records.
Evidence File
Documentation for platform requests and law enforcement referral.

In their own words
“It was the top result in the app store. Everything worked for two months. They established the exact date it was compromised, which I’d never have found.”

"Emptied overnight. They traced it to an exchange in four days and told me precisely what to send them."

Common Questions
Very likely. Delayed withdrawal is standard practice precisely because it obscures the cause. Part of the investigation is establishing that link, which matters for both a platform request and a police report.
For reversal, yes — no private firm can undo a confirmed transaction, and anyone claiming otherwise is not being honest with you. For tracing, no. The transaction is a permanent record, and following it is exactly what we do.
No. Layering and bridging are done specifically to break the trail, and following those chains is routine investigative work rather than an obstacle.
Submit it to any exchange the funds reached, file it with the police, take it to a solicitor for civil action, or use it to support an insurance claim where applicable.
Yes, and to a new wallet with a newly generated recovery phrase on a device you trust. If the old phrase was exposed, everything secured by it remains at risk indefinitely.
